August 26. 2022 the marching band season has started and there still

isn’t an official director. Assistant William Cosby has been filling in as the

director for the year so far as the previous director Chris Shew had to leave

do to some problems. So now they band along with everyone else is left with

the question “Who will be the new Parkersburg South band director?”

As this doesn’t just affect the marching band it effects the normal band

as well. With Shew’s quick leave the second week after the bands week at

Cedar Lakes, it took everyone by surprise. The students along with everyone

else were very heartbroken but also understanding to Shews leave.

The students have been working very hard trying to finish their show

as they only have the first 2 movements done. The band has their first

football game today as they will be playing pregame and halftime. This is the

first time that the band will be putting the show in front of people, the bands

first contest is on September 10th, 2022 at John Marshall.

The band along with everyone else should soon find out who the new

director will be. Cosby has applied for the job but there are also a few

people that want to be the director and they are out of state. The students

hope for Cosby as that is who they all know and love, along without the fact

that they don’t want to lose two directors in the span of a month. We know

that Cosby along with the kids are worried but still going to do our best no

matter what. As Cosby has said “Would winning and getting Gand

Championship be nice and fun. Yes. But, as long as we do our best and put

out a great show I’m happy.”
