On Friday September 30th, Parkersburg South held our Homecoming game and our 2022-
23 King and Queen were announced. Seniors, Bentley Kinzer and Macie Watkins, were crowned our Homecoming King and Queen! I was able to speak to Bentley and Macie about their new titles, and it was clear that they are both delighted and honored to have received this award.
Seven Questions with our King and Queen:
1. How does it feel to win the crown?
B: “It feels really great. It made me happy that my classmates voted for me.”
M: “It’s amazing! I was surprised and excited! The biggest emotion I was feeling was
gratitude for winning queen. It has already helped to make my senior year so much
more memorable.”
2. What made you interested in running?
B: “I had never run for Homecoming Court in the past, and I thought it might be fun
to try it for my senior year.”
M: “I’ve been on Homecoming Court all four years, and after I made it the first two
years, it became a personal goal of mine. I also thought it would be really fun to
represent South in this way.”
3. What was going through your head before the winners were announced?
B: “I definitely wasn’t thinking I was going to win, but I was grateful to at least have
been a part of the court with Tessa.”
M: “I was cold and pretty nervous, so I said a little prayer.”
4. What are you most looking forward to about senior year?
B: “I’m really looking forward to leading the student section for basketball games,
being a co-op worker in the office, and a great season for our baseball team.”
M: “So far, I’ve loved getting to twirl with my sister, Harmony. It’s been the highlight
of my whole year.”
5. Bentley, how are you feeling about your duties as the leader of the Southside
Psychos?
B: “ I’m so excited. We’re going to be really good this year.”
Macie, how are you feeling about your duties as Parkersburg South Student Council
President?
M: “It’s given me a lot of responsibilities as well as the opportunity to have more fun
with school activities. Being in co-op has also allowed me to reach out to more
underclassmen and help them get involved.”
6. What is one thing you feel like you couldn’t survive without?
B: “My momma and my truck … oh, and Hannah!”
M: “My family and my toothbrush because a future dentist needs to have good dental
hygiene! And my baton!”
7. How did you celebrate your win?
B: “After the game, I led the student section in cleaning up the stadium.”
M: “I ran over to the band and we all shared a giant group hug. They’re a great
support system.”
Macie is Student Council President, feature twirler with the PSHS Band, and more. Bentley, no less involved, is the Student Section leader of the Southside Psychos and a Varsity Baseball player. Both Macie and Bentley are incredible students and there’s nobody who deserves this honor more than them. I know I speak for staff and students alike when I say that I cannot wait to see what this year has in store for these two!
