No. 3 Parkersburg South has found out that hard work coupled with talent pays off. The team had a strong first half to create a sizeable lead over No. 6 Wheeling Park on Thursday in the Class AAAA West Virginia Boys Basketball Tournament. They continued to mount points to a 72-46 win over the opposition.

Parkersburg South closed out the first half with a 19-2 run to give it a 31-15 advantage at halftime and then built on that lead in the second half with a hot shooting touch. The team finished the half shooting 48% and shot 43% from the field for the game.

Jackson Smith and Ashton Mooney led the way for Parkersburg South with a game-high 17 points each. Cyrus Traugh added 14 points and Caleb Schaffer hauled down 14 rebounds to go along with four points.

Parkersburg South will move on to face the winner of No. 2 Jefferson and No. 7 Cabell Midland.
