Should America be glad or worried that minimum wage is on the rise across the country? How will this affect us? In 2022 Minimum wage in some states and cities will come to a rise to accommodate the larger populations. Six states will increase their minimum wage rates by $1. Including California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey and New Mexico. Although it may differ in different states due to the populations of the cities. Some people are glad that minimum wage prices are coming to a rise but others are more worried about how this could affect daily life.
One question to think about is, Will businesses shut down due to having to pay employees more or will the employment rise go down. Due to the minimum wage prices going up will this affect how many employees a store can take? Although it doesn’t seem like a lot $1 an
hour can add up pretty quickly. In the long run this can highly affect businesses income and money. Protestors are taking these questions into quite consideration, along with many other questions you might have. Will your favorite restaurant or store shut down due to this rise?
There are many ways the rise can positively affect us and negatively affect us also.
Although minimum wage prices beginning to rise may seem like a good thing, think how this can affect us in a couple months. I talked to a few people to see their opinion. Mrs. White an art teacher said she does not believe prices should go up. When I asked her why she said “I think it pushes prices up higher.” That’s another thing to take into consideration, Will the price of your favorite things go up due to the need to make more money? Next I interviewed Emilia Horton a student who works at the Country Club taking care of the children and she believes prices should go up. She said “ I’m just a teenager but imagine a single parent with a big family trying to support them? Not all people can afford to have two jobs.” There’s two different perspectives of this that makes you really think about this.
The cost of living has gone up due to the population rise in the last decade. Larger cities need to accommodate more people but can they afford it? This topic has a lot of questions that can’t be answered right now but in the future whenever the rise starts to come into affect. Many people are very excited but also angry. Cheers to 2022 and we shall see where this rise takes us!
